Ben Sherman

Founded by Brighton born Arthur Benjamin Sugarman in 1963, Ben Sherman has been at the forefront of Britsh fashion for over 50 years. Sugarman emigrated to America aged just 20 and married the daughter of a clothes manufacturer. On his return to the UK he noticed an emergence of London youths importing Oxford-Cloth buttoned down checked shirts from America.

Changing his name to ‘Ben Sherman’, he decided to rent a small factory producing similar shirts with higher quality fabrics and bold designs. Their originality lead to acceptance by the British youth culture and over the past 50 years his designs have revolutionised male fashion with links to the Mod, Ska, Brit Pop movements.
Today, no fashion forward male is without an original Ben Sherman checked shirt, famed for its slim-fitting design and bold colours.
