John Smedley
Famous for its high quality luxury knitwear, John Smedley has a over 200 years strong heritage based in Lea Mills in Derbyshire. The company started in 1784 by producing muslin and cotton for hand frame looms and expanded to include knitted garments, with focus on hosiery.
In the 1950’s the company, still going strong and still in the Smedley family, began producing more outerwear garments in line with changing trends and the introduction of central heating. Throughout the 1980’s the company’s fame rose through its close ties with Vivienne Westwood and Paul Smith, amongst other big names who fell in love with the garments due to their exceptional high quality. Even today, John Smedleys classic designs can be seen gracing the pages of prestigious fashion publications.
All John Smedley garments continue to be produced in the same Derbyshire mill which allows them to create the same trusted high quality they had over 200 years ago.
