With 12 pairs of vans shoes being sold on the very first day of business, Vans were set to succeed from the very beginning. Opened in 1966 by brothers Paul and James Van Doren it aimed to provide quality affordable footwear direct to the public. Vans popularity rose in 1982 when Sean Penn wore a pair in the crowd-pleasing comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
With a loyal following of devoted fans, Vans expanded their line into creating shoes for skateboarding, snowboarding, BMXing as well as any other activities the wearer chooses. The company has since gone on to open a number of indoor Vans Skate Parks and sponsor the world famous Warped Tour.
Nearly 50 years on Vans are still popular with those who want to express their individuality and add a touch of cool to any outfit.
